There is a special place in my heart for military families. I come from a military family. My grandfather flew fighter planes in WWII, the Korean War, and in Vietnam. After being shotdown several times, he found himself in a Prisoner of War camp in Germany during WWII. So when the opportunity came about to visit the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier that is now docked in Manhattan, I was all in!! I wanted to go not only in honor of my grandfather, but also for all who have fought for this nation's freedom. This is me actually inside the carrier. The carrier has numerous planes and helicopters docked outside on the runway and also inside the ship. I was in awe of the courage and the unifying effort these people exemplified.

One afternoon my parents and I were hoping to have lunch in New York's very famous restaurant area called the Soho. Here, in the heart of Little Italy, there are wonderful places to eat. However, instead of going North, my map reading skills were off that day, and we went South ending up by the Brooklyn Bridge. It couldn't be a wasted trip, so my dad and I crossed it and took a picture on the bridge! It turned out to be a nice surprise!

My mom and I needed a small siesta after trekking through the city from what seemed like one side to the other. This summer, New York City has shut down various streets throughout Time Square and placed lawn chairs, tables and often have bands performing. In the midst of the chaotic scene of tourists, my mom and I found some open chairs and relaxed for a moment before beginning round two of our exploring. As you can tell in the pic, we needed a break, we look beat!

One of my favorite things to do is to bake. I have a major sweet tooth and I love to take a recipe and make it my own. I have a GREAT alternate recipe for cupcakes. I simply substitute many of the ingredients for healthier ones ( like unsweetened apple sauce and
nonfat yogurt for veggie oil)! Not only does the cupcake turn out more moist, but it is a bit healthier as well! What a great combo! One day before a team gathering, I took some vanilla cake mix and frosting and created New York Liberty cupcakes. I made orange, blue and seafoam green icing and then decorated with sprinkles! They were a hit!
